India's Census-Taking Kicks Off - Screw Privacy Advocates (Corrupt People)
India is kicking off an unprecedented effort to enumerate 1.2 billion people. The count is also meant to gather data for an equally ambitious project to give every Indian a unique identification card.
The number of Indian census takers alone - 2.5 million - outnumbers the entire population of some small countries. They will be fanning out across what is the world's seventh largest and second most populous nation.
Home Minister Palaniappan Chidabaram calls the task unprecedented. He is appealing to everyone in India to voluntarily participate. "An exercise of this kind has not been attempted anywhere else in the world. This exercise must succeed. This exercise will succeed. But we need your cooperation and support," said Chidabaram.
The first census taker for the once-every-decade count showed up at the presidential palace to start the initial process, known as "house-listing."
President Pratibha Patil was the first person out of an estimated 1.2 billion to be counted.
The census takers will record such details as what peoples' houses are made of, whether they have toilets and access to drinking water and even if they have a mobile telephone or an Internet connection. To try to count everyone, they are supposed to venture into such hazardous places as remote forests under the control of rebel Maoists.
The census takers are also required to tabulate the homeless wherever they can find them, such as on railway platforms and under bridges.
For the first time, everyone who is registered will be photographed and fingerprinted. That data will be used to issue national identity cards, in the next several years. The cards are supposed to help the poor, who may have no other means of identification to open bank accounts and to obtain government benefits. Government officials say the cards will cut fraud. But privacy advocates are raising concerns, arguing that the program could give rise to intrusive government surveillance of citizens.
India's census-taking tradition dates back to the British colonial era, when the first enumeration was conducted in 1872. Since then it has been conducted about once every decade.

A New York lawyer went duck hunting in eastern North Carolina. He shot and dropped a bird, but it fell into a farmer's field on the other side of a fence. As the lawyer climbed over the fence, an older man asked him what he was doing. The lawyer responded, "I shot a duck and it fell in this field, I'm going to retrieve it."
The old farmer replied. "This is my property, and you are not coming over here."
The indignant lawyer said, "I am one of the best trial attorneys in the U.S. and, if you don't let me get that duck, I'll sue you and take everything!
The old farmer smiled and said, "Apparently, you don't know how we do things here in North Carolina. We settle small disagreements like this with the NC Three-Kick Rule."
The lawyer asked, "What is the NC three-Kick Rule?"
The Farmer replied. "Well, first I kick you three times and then you kick me three times, and so on, back and forth, until someone gives up."
The New York attorney quickly thought about the proposed contest and decided that he could easily take the old southerner. He agreed to abide by the local custom.

The old farmer slowly climbed down from the tractor and walked up to the city feller. His first kick planted the toe of his heavy work boot onto the lawyer and dropped him to his knees. His next two kicks caused the lawyer so much pain that he just about gave up. However, the New York lawyer summoned every bit of his will and managed to get to his feet and said, "Okay, you old redneck southerner, now it's my turn."

A mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the motor of a Harley motorcycle when he spotted a well-known heart surgeon in his shop.
The surgeon was there, waiting for the service manager to come and take a look at his bike.
The mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hey, Doc, can I ask you a question?"
The surgeon a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic working on the motorcycle. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "So Doc, look at this engine. I open its heart, take valves out, fix 'em, put 'em back in, and when I finish, it works just like new. So how come I get such a small salary and you get the really big bucks, when you and I are doing basically the same work?"
The surgeon paused, smiled and leaned over, and whispered to the mechanic...
"Try doing it with the engine running."

Detailing the State’s IT framework to the delegates Chief Minister talked on IT Infrastructure Network, 65000 km long Optical Fiber Network, 24*7 electricity supply, highest telecommunication density, proactive E-Governance and E-Gram Broadband connectivity facility to all 13693 Gram-Panchayats.

Adequate experiences in field engineering to support measuring and evaluating existing turbines for repair or replacement. Candidates should have proven track record in providing technical assistance while turbine assembly, maintenance and repair. Candidates should have good understanding of the steam/gas turbine site installation and maintenance procedures. Selected need to carry out scheduled maintenance activities and also assists with installation and commissioning new units and carries out upgrades on existing equipment for our customer base. Considerable amount of travelling may be required, as part of job.
Rotor Dynamics Engineer - Turbo machinery: 3 to 5 years of experience in rotor dynamics, vibration analysis and bearing technologies. Should be familiar with Rotor dynamics and understanding of rotor system design. Hands on experience in rotor dynamic analysis using commercial tools are highly desirable. Candidates should have ability to independently execute and manage work package tasks.
Experience in steam/gas turbine design would be an advantage.
Thermodynamics Engineer - Steam Turbine: 4 to 6 years of experience in steam/gas turbine thermodynamic calculations. Good understanding in Steam Turbine thermodynamic cycle, preparation of heat balance calculation sheets. Candidates should have Knowledge of power systems, power plants, controls and steam turbine equipment and terminology. Gas Turbine Engineer - Mechanical Design: The selected candidates will perform mechanical design of gas turbine engine fuel, hydraulic, lubrication, electrical and air management plumbing and harness systems hardware. This position requires creative design skills in engine hardware arrangement and packaging to achieve maintainable, low cost systems while meeting structural and functional requirements. Externals hardware includes a vast and challenging array of parts including tubes, brackets, electrical harnesses, and component mounts. The Externals designer routinely interfaces with virtually every module on a PW gas turbine engine. All design work will utilize Unigraphics solid modeling as well as in-house modeling and analysis tools. Candidate should possess proven communication and teaming skills. Candidate must be able to interface effectively with both internal and external customers. Prior PW gas turbine experience and strong aptitude in working in a virtual 3D environment is a plus.
Qualification & Experience: BTech/MTech in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 4+ years of related experience is required. Experience in mechanical design with CAD/solid modeling (i.e. Unigraphics) is must and finite element analysis tools (i.e. Ansys or PATRAN) is added advantage. Experience with Aerospace plumbing, pneumatic duct or component mount design is preferred.
